Well, I finally was able to access this website, recommended to me by Wedosi. (Thanks, Wedosi!)

It is very interesting. I've never really learned about this view of Vodou before.

Anyway, if you want to learn what they have to say, and to offer, see:

www.mamiwata.com/

Some of the more interesting pages on this site are:

www.mamiwata.com/news.html

www.mamiwata.com/christian...ities.html

Voudoun myths:
pub47.bravenet.com/faq/show.php

Here's the page if you would like a Divination done:
www.mamiwata.com/divine.html

They also have some really nice videos on the site,
and some very interesting reading materials....
and the drumming is very cool! There is lots of
drumming on the bottom of THIS page:

(Bottom of page: drum rhythms)

I'm happy that you found it Maggie! I do not know the lady personally; but, I respect her efforts to learn, that to be her destiny, from the masters. That is why I know her divination is correct! :) Her website is also most informative about African divination and the role of women in it. In other parts of Africa divination is male-dominated.

Dear Wedosi, I must say this site brings a lot together for me! I've long had a great devotion to "The Black Madonna"...I have a lovely statue of Black Madonna of Anjony, FRance on my altar!

Also, there is LOTS about the Mami Wata that resonates with me.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!

(Any suggestions for a special "thank you" offering to the Mami Wata spirits???)

The Mami Wata spirits are very interesting! There are 41 in all. The "1" representing the one that we do not know. Mami herself is at the head of the pantheon; and, believe it or not there are many different Mamis. Mine is called RADA! The Mami spirits are best seen if you look at the Hindu Gods. We use the same photos. I can explain more later.:) The Mami Spirits...love champagne, fine wines and liquors, sweet drinks, candies, eggs/bird eggs, (I have 16 on my prayer table) that is because the Mami spirits (for many of them their animal form) is that of the snake! YES! That serpent in the tree in the garden of EDEN was one of the royal voduns. Mawu/Lissa himself/herself is in the pantheon of Mami and is a snake! :) Ayidowedo, BUDDAH is also a part of the Mami Wata pantheon in Africa...as well as ALLAH, AJAKPA (crocodile), Oshun and a host of others. These vodun are called the "royals". Vodun encompasses many spirits and traditions!

        We'll talk more later! :)

RADA reminds of the Hindu Goddess Radha. The Mami Wata website points to the meaning of Radha as "Muse." You've certainly been a Muse to me.

what i know is that she likes body-powder and parfume. she likes mirrors full with powder - you can create a little hole in the middle of the mirror.

What a sweet idea! I love it! I am going to invite Mami Wata to my Yuletide festivities...but only AFTER I have decorated and made everything ready for Her. ;-)

                maggie,
from what i am reading here you are making a big yule-party.
i am not doing yule and voodoo together. for me they are different lines.
                greetings,
                lena

                  RE: Yule

For me, Yule is the celebration of the Winter Solstice season. It's the longest night of the year, the light born from the darkness. It celebrates the birth of the "Sun" from "Mother Night." ;-) All these things.....the light, the darkness, the Sun, the Night....are in Voudou. So for me, there is no need to separate them. In fact, I think "Papa Noel" might be a Loa! :-)

Also, the Marassa will be celebrated, as they love the season!

I understand, however, that others may celebrate differently, and I say, do whatever feels right to you. And may your Holidays be wonderful, however you celebrate.
                  • This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

i hope there is no misunderstanding.
i did not say it is bad to celebrate yule together with the vodou-spirits.
i am following my own rules and i feel that everybody else is free to follow his rules.
                    i was just curious.
