Re: Simbi Makaya
Fri, February 22, 2008 - 2:27 PMI know little about Simbi. However, I always like it when people ask these kinds of questions. It motivates me to do research. Of course the first thing I did was Google Simbi Makaya. Fascinating. However, I am curious as to why Vodouisants would associate Mami Wata with the Simbis; I always thought Mami Wata was a strictly Beninouise (?) Vodun. And if it is not too personal, I'd love to hear about how Simbi has affected/influenced your life, even if you are very vague about it. But I totally understand if you'd reather keep that all to yourself. Here is another picture I drew-

Mon, February 25, 2008 - 8:44 AMDamien...its a long story...yes..im PR. and hafe italian...raised in the santeria path and palo..and at a young age..worked the eggun from the age of 9..maybe even younger..but i remember about 17yrs ago..i walked in the path of Zancie..a path that many are confused about..but its a branch of voodoo..from haiti..theres no real teachings on its history..but the lwa's still live with in its mysterys..like Simbi...like ogun...like Dantu and many more...thats what i mean on how voodu branched out with in the slave trade..as it branched out...the names and paths started to change but never leaveing behind its root..anyways back to me..;-) i use to kid around and make fun..of ST MARTHA..thats one path of mama wata and so on..she comes in many forms..depending that root..anyways..i would play around with my mother..saying st martha stated for u to give me money..(LOL) st,martha stated u need to let me go tothis party..in other words i used her name to get my way..till one day..i was taken to my god-father..stateinh i was to enter a new path..i was young and stupid,,ok,ok, i stated..he stated that the one that leads me was MAMA SIMBI..i was like ok,,,who is that..he looked in my eyes with a deep look..a look i never saw..it reached in my soul making my body jerk..he stated..one of her forms was st,martha.......my eyes opened in shock..then he stated she dominats everything..your root comes in form of a women..but little after that..she told me(mama simbi..) search..theres more to me...i am 1 but my family is many...whom come in forms of men...dreams and visions...i've monted at least 7 diffrent paths of the simbi's...i respect them like any other lwa's..and they have help me help many in my life time...like i stated..the story is long...i've been touched by many lwa;s but simbi's are my world.

Re: Simbi Makaya
Sat, February 23, 2008 - 8:34 AMMy godfather works with Simbi Makaya a lot more than I do -- you live in NYC, right? Maybe I will get a chance to introduce you to him sometime (he lives in Canarsie).
Sort of going along with what Damien said; I usually associate Mami Wata with La Sirene, myself (and agree that she's from West Africa -- the area that's now Togo, I believe -- rather than Central Africa).
But there's a similar-ish spirit called "La Ren Congo" who might be closer to the Mama Simbi you're thinking of. (She's an amazing dancer, and shows up at our fetes a lot, particularly when my brother, the dance teacher, is around...)

Mon, February 25, 2008 - 8:30 AMthank u guys...sorry on the dely on this reply....and your 100% right kathy...regarding MAMA Wata....but im doing so much research on Simbi paths..beacuse alot of the teachings from diffrent house's are broken up..im not saying their wrong..not at all...but im only getting bits and peaces ...the real reason im looking in to it..is because i've worked many times with the Simbi family..or better stated lwa's ..they come in so many diffrent forms..and those that have worked with them really..would know what im talking about!.........its a great mysterty behind them..rooting back to africa...branching out so much through the years..that it has changed many of the teachings...wanna know something..it may sound weird to u guys..But i love the Simbi family and they speak to me in many forms...but in my mind and in my heart..i feel theres more..hav u ever felt that way with a lwa??the SIMBIS' show me alot..but i feel its not enough...to understand any lwa..or spirit..u must know its history..its suffering..its way of being...and why it came to be...i do understand..something are left to say as mysterys...but i know its them that are pushing me to know more..dose that sound silly? -

Re: Simbi Makaya
Mon, February 25, 2008 - 2:10 PMDoesn't sound silly to me AT ALL. In the last ten years, I would occasionally have a dream about a snake or two (or more sometimes). It seems these dreams would happen just before a major change in my life would occur. In one, I was surfing (?- on a skateboard without wheels!) the surface of a muddy swamp full of snakes. I knew that some were poisonous and others weren't. Now and again one would jump out of the water and attack me. I would grab it and toss it back in.
I like snakes ALOT, even though I don't know much about any of the Simbis, and have little experience with them. I would think that I'd have stronger connections with them but I don't. One thing it certain, and it is that I'm particularly drawn to Andezo.
I always thought St. Martha was syncretized with La Sirene... -
